A Clinical Study on the Neuropsychiatric Problems of Children at National Medical Center

Abstract
Child psychiatry has a brief history both in it¢¥s systemic study and also in it¢¥s clinical practices. Most child psychiatric practice in Korea has been established within the general psychiatric practice exept one or two hospitals.
In this paper, the authors attempted to draw out the current trends of Korean child psychiatric situation and to suggest a desirable outlook of it¢¥s development.
We studied about the differences of the demographic data between August 1, ¢¥76 to July 31, ¢¥79 at the National Medical Center, and compared between the child psychiatry practice alone and the conjoint practice with general psychiatry.
The percentage of child patients to the tot-al psychiatric patients are decreased, such as 12.6,,,06 in 1976 and 7.7;i in 1978, even though the number of child patients are increased.
Several reports from other psychiatric departments where child psychiaric practices are mixed with the general psychiatry showed almost the same rates as ours. On the contrary the re-port by Dr. Hong said the rapid increasing number of child patients in his independent department of child psychiatry. He himself is an active specialist of the child psychiatry and per-formed by active relationships with other departments and public organizations.
We noted the increasing number of the more younger patients year by year. So it has taken to be accounted that the multidisciplinary team approaches are greatly required.
In conclusion, our proposals are, firstly, to have independent child psychiaric section as early as possible. Secondary, it¢¥s professionals are better to be active in their relationships with other medical sections and social organizations.
